About to buy a domain for your new website and have no idea where the eff to do it?
Holler.
These decisions seem crazy. Because the ol’ google search page for “buying a domain” is a frickin overwhelming hole of suggestions.
Don’t stress, I’ve got you!
Here’s a lil breakdown for you (my fav is def the third option)
⚡ OPTION 1: GODADDY
Reasons it’s great:
– it’s cheap
– has a great domain email integration that is also cheaper
– easy to sign up and purchase
– easy to connect to your website platform
Reasons it’s not so great:
– customer service is just okay and can sometimes get confusing
– email integration is with windows (not great for us gmailers)
⚡ OPTION 2: PURCHASING THROUGH YOUR WEB PLATFORM
Reasons it’s great:
– you’re immediately connected to your website so there is no transfer process
– all of your website info is together under the same account
Reasons it’s not so great:
– (this is for my wix users) if you ever plan to have your website on a different platform, you cannot connect your domain to a different platform. (BIG RED FLAG and a big ol’ mess in my opinion)
– they tend to be a little more expensive in the long run
⚡ OPTION 3: GOOGLE DOMAINS
Reasons it’s great:
– it’s not very expensive
– it just came out of beta (so I have a code for you if you want to save even more money!) so they are actively working on it and on top of their shit
– easy to connect to your website platform (if you have intermediate computer skills)
– easy email integration set up
Reasons it’s not so great:
– customer service can be hard to find
– google settings and instructions can feel overwhelming because they explain everything to us like we’re all lawyers
Have a q about domains? I’d love to hear it!!! Drop it below and I’ll get back to you stat 🙂
